Rail Partners “Freight Expectations”
Railwhere CONSULTING works with Aether Limited and Rail Partners to ensure commitment to rail freight expansion.
Overview
In late 2023 the Rail Partners contracted Aether Limited to conduct research on the potential impact of aggressive growth policies for rail freight in the UK. Lampada Digital Solutions (predecessor of Railwhere) worked with Aether to model current and future representative freight flows, thereby establishing a baseline and anticipated changes to resultant emissions. The aggressive rail expansion option was compared to scenarios with more road freight being used.
The results of this work were incorporated in a report published by Rail Partners in March 2023, tiled “Freight Expectations – How rail freight can support Britain’s economy and environment”. This was presented to Parliament and figures from this report are still often quoted by ministers and other policy stakeholders. A standout feature of this project was the tight deadline during the December/January period that was met through close collaboration with our partners Aether.
