Railwhere Core.png

CORE is our database, a rich source of data containing many elements required to model and analyse freight on the GB rail network. It contains a geospatial lay-out of the GB rail network, with many attributes e.g. gradients, loading gauge clearances, speed restrictions, electrification and maximum trailing weights. It also contains more than 10 years of train schedules and actual train movement data, updated close to real-time. We have developed a sophisticated data maintenance environment to manage the many data sources and formats that are included in our consolidated and integrated database. Our data team work hard to ensure data is kept accurate and up to date. This database is the foundation for all our applications.

Railwhere Software

software.PNG

The Railwhere software products (formerly known as NR+) are designed to make UK rail freight data easy to use and understand.

As our name suggests, it is all about understanding rail data in a geospatial context, which is intuitive and visual. We hope you will forgive us the indulgence of the Railwhere word play. We use sophisticated techniques to create and manage the data and build applications in a secure and scalable Azure environment.

The applications are accessed through a browser interface with secure user access profiles. Onboarding is a hassle-free and fast process, and our hosting and support model ensures high availability and no maintenance headaches.

Railwhere Maps.png

MAPS is a user-friendly geospatial map interface to our data. It enables users to access data in a visual and intuitive way. Maps can be customised using attribute selections and filters and can be copied to be used in reports and documents. The maps are interactive with location search and detailed data drill-down features. The maps also contain a routing feature, enabling users to map train routes based on origin-destination searches or current and historic scheduled routes.

Railwhere Clear.png

CLEAR is a train clearance checking tool which indicates clearance of a selected train consist travelling a selected route. It considers data from Sectional Appendices, Load Books and other official planning documents to highlight clearance limits and restrictions on a geospatial route lay-out. It can be a major time saver for train planners. While we are not quite there yet, we are working towards a complete check, so we can reduce the time for a comprehensive route clearance check to less than a minute.

SEEsim - Speed, Energy and Emissions Simulator (formerly known as REEC) is our flagship (and award winning) analytics tool, which performs accurate simulation of any specified train consists travelling any specified GB rail route, in less than a minute. It uses the capabilities of MAPS to define a train route, and our pre-populated database of existing locomotives and wagons commonly used on the network, to model the performance of a train on the specified route. Speed, notch, energy and emission profiles are generated in 10-meter route increments. Extensive research and analysis of train telematic data is incorporated in LENS, to ensure a realistic and accurate representation of train performance and driver behaviour.  The latest in locomotive developments can be modelled, including multiple traction modes, regenerative braking and battery state profiles. Train and route attributes can be modified to perform what-if scenario analysis (optioneering). We are partnering with technical experts Aether Limited and Freightliner to deliver this unique tool.

Railwhere Green.png

GREEN calculates origin to destination emissions for a specified volume and format of freight, comparing a road option to a rail option. For the rail option, the power of LENS is used to accurately determine the expected emissions. For the road option, our methodology was developed by the University of Hull Logistics Institute. The GREEN calculations consider first- and last-mile road section for rail and the impact of return or empty legs. GREEN is simple enough to be used by non-expert users. For more in-depth analysis of rail journeys users are referred to our LENS tool.

GREEN is currently only available to selected Beta customers and will be released for general use shortly.

Railwhere Share.png

SHARE is our application integration platform. This allows us to share data or application features with external stakeholders. This can be embedded in other software applications (See BUILT BY and POWERED BY), or it can provide data for research or external analysis purposes.

Built by Railwhere.png

BUILT BY is our brand for the bespoke development of software for customers. These can be standalone applications or can integrate with our other Railwhere products through SHARE. We work with customers through the entire design, build, test, deploy and support cycle of the products. The IP is owned by the customer, who can either host the product themselves or contract us for hosting and support. We work to the most stringent project management and assurance standards and our software complies to stringent security and performance standards. Our team works closely with your project team to ensure seamless communication. An example is the development of the Network Rail Digital Freight Loads Books (DFLB) that won the 2024 Rail Staff Awards “Rail team of the year” award.

Powered by Railwhere.png

POWERED BY is our brand for embedding data or application features in third party applications. This works through our SHARE platform. We work with customers to identify their specific needs and develop appropriate and optimised integration APIs or widgets. Our integrations comply to strict security and performance standards.
